The Prince Estate & Jay-Z’s Tidal Team Up To Release New Prince Album

Ever since the untimely passing of Prince Rogers Nelson in 2016, legal drama between the late icon’s estate and the Tidal entertainment platform played out in public. Tidal co-owner Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter even addressed the situation on his 4:44 track “__Caught Their Eyes.”__
Apparently, the famous idiom “time heals all wounds” even applies to million dollar contractual disputes. The Prince Estate and Tidal settled their business issues, and the two parties are now teaming up to debut a new 2019 album from the Purple One.
“I’m very pleased this is resolved, and we get to honor the relationship between Prince and Tidal with this album. We look forward to fans hearing the new music and experiencing the genius of Prince,” states Troy Carter of The Prince Estate/
Jay-Z adds, “Our only goal is to share Prince’s music with his fans as he wanted. After thoughtful and honest conversation with him, he chose Tidal as his partner for HITnRUN Phase One and HITnRUN Phase Two, and we will continue to respect and honor Prince’s enduring legacy and wishes with this new collection.”
The forthcoming Prince project will consist of tunes from the legend’s archive of Vault recordings and will stream exclusively on Tidal for fourteen days. Seven days after its debut, the LP will be available for download with a planned global physical release following the digital premiere.
Prince was a vocal public supporter of Tidal. Prior to his death, he pulled his catalog from other streaming services except for the Jay-fronted company.
“Once we have our own resources, we can provide what we need for ourselves,” said Prince in 2015. “Jay-Z spent $100 million of his own money to build his own service. We have to show support for artists who are trying to own things for themselves.”
