Though The Office wrapped over seven years ago, the NBC comedy has never been more popular. Thanks to Netflix, the show continues to reach new audiences on a daily basis. With a star-studded cast, sweet romances, and plenty of humor, The Office is considered to be one of the best TV comedies in recent years.

As The Office gains popularity with each passing year, there’s been plenty of chatter about rebooting the show or even filming a special reunion episode. But fans aren’t the only ones who are enthusiastic about reviving the show in some way. Plenty of The Office cast members have also been feeling nostalgia for the popular show.

‘The Office’ cast has been inspiring nostalgia amongst fans with podcasts and spinoffs

In recent years, there have been multiple podcasts made in which the cast members give fans behind-the-scenes info on The Office. Leslie David Baker (who played everyone’s favorite curmudgeon, Stanley Hudson) even raised enough money to film a spinoff pilot of the show. John Krasinski and Rainn Wilson have also shared that they’d be open to reprising their roles as Jim and Dwight should the right opportunity come along. Even Greg Daniels, who is the creator and showrunner of The Office, said he wouldn’t rule a reboot out.

But not every member of The Office cast is on board with a reboot. Steve Carell, who played one of the most beloved characters in The Office, Michael Scott, has shared that he doesn’t have any interest in reprising his role. Unlike his fellow cast members, Carell left the show at the end of season seven. However, many fans agree that the show’s final two seasons weren’t as strong without Carell’s tremendous talent and presence.

Steve Carell has no interest in returning for a reboot or reunion special

Though Carell doesn’t have an interest in returning to the show, he looks back on his time on The Office with tremendous fondness. In fact, it’s that fondness that makes him hesitant to reprise his role or bring the show back in any capacity. In an interview with Collider, The 40-Year-Old-Virgin star shared his reasoning for not wanting to bring the uber-popular television show back.

“I’ll tell you, no,” Carell said candidly when asked if he had any interest in doing a reunion for The Office. “I feel like I’m a broken record, talking about this because I get asked about it. The show is way more popular now than when it was on the air. I just can’t see it being the same thing, and I think most folks would want it to be the same thing, but it wouldn’t be. Ultimately, I think it’s maybe best to leave well enough alone and just let it exist as what it was.”

Why ‘The Office’ star doesn’t want to revive his infamous character, Michael Scott

Carell continued on to share that there would be no way to replicate The Office in this day and age. “You’d literally have to have all of the same writers, the same producers, the same directors, and the same actors, and even with all of those components, it just wouldn’t be the same,” the former cast member confessed. “So, no. But, I love the show. It was the most exciting time, and all of those people are my friends. We all love it. It was a special thing. It was a special thing before people thought it was a special thing. It was special to us before other people started feeling that way. But, no.”

While Carell loves that The Office is still finding its way in the hearts of people today, he’s afraid that a reboot would be messing with a good thing. “I just wouldn’t want to make the mistake of making a less good version of it,” the actor confessed. “The odds wouldn’t be in its favor, in terms of it recapturing exactly what it was, the first time.” We can certainly understand Carell’s hesitance about trying to recreate the iconic show. Only time will tell if a reboot will happen without him.
