Jay-Z To Host Prince ‘Originals’ Album Listening Party In Los Angeles

Written by on May 29, 2019

Tidal co-owner Shawn “Jay Z” Carter will host a special listening event in Los Angeles on June 6. Before his passing in 2016, Prince collaborated with Tidal to release HIT AND RUN Phase One and HIT AND RUN Phase Two. The late music icon also livestreamed his Rally 4 Peace concert on the platform. “Prince led the way, for artistic freedom, for ownership. He’s one of the bravest people I can think of in the industry. He trusted us, not just me, but Tidal, to continue his fight,” says Jay. “Trying to help further that legacy through his music is both an honor we couldn’t pass up as an organization dedicated to empowering artists. This gives his true fans that peak behind the curtain.” On behalf of The Prince Estate, Jay-Z and Troy Carter selected the tracks for Originals. The project features songs Prince wrote and recorded for other artists such as Sheila E., The Bangles, Apollonia 6, The Time, and more. It also contains the original 1984 version of “Nothing Compares 2 U.” Tidal members can pre-save Originals in order to receive a notification when the album goes live, and users will be able to hear the records just as Prince intended the tracks to sound. Non-members can get access to Tidal through a special offer on TIDAL.com/Prince. “After one meeting, it was obvious that Jay-Z and the team he has assembled at Tidal recognize and applaud the effort that real musicians put in 2 their craft 2 achieve the very best they can at this pivotal time in the music industry. Secondly, Tidal have honored Us with a non-restrictive arrangement that once again allows Us to continue making art in the fashion We’ve grown accustomed 2, and We’re Extremely grateful 4 their generous support,” stated Prince in 2015.
